Over the past few years, LEGO has gotten more and more involved in movie and TV production, and this year, the Danish toy company will be one of the most prominent film studios in the film Thor: Ragnarok. In the film, Iron Man played an important role as a father to Thor. However, Anthony Mackie’s schedule made it impossible for him to reprise the role in the new movie. Fortunately, LEGO got involved as well, and may be just the solution to Tony’s absence in the movie.
The latest installment of the LEGO set series, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 26, 2017, and to put it mildly, it’s going to be mind-blowing. Assemble the Iron Man Mark XLIX set and you’ll experience an action-packed adventure packed with the Avengers, including Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who returns to the big screen after a lengthy absence during the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming animated series, What if…?, will reimagine key events in the MCU, and now it appears that the LEGO set will reveal details about Tony Stark’s adventures. It looks like Stark, aka Iron Man, is going to take a trip to his own Thor: Escape Ragnarok-style, team up with Valkyrie and don colorful new armor made from the remains of Sakaar. In August, Disney+ will release What If…? which tells what would happen if key moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe happened differently. Led by Jeffrey Wright as Watu, also known as Watcher, a member of the Watcher alien race that guards the multiverse and occasionally intervenes in events, the animated series will introduce viewers to alternate versions of many different characters, including Captain America, Black Panther and Black Widow. The show’s head writer, A.K. Bradley, first described the Watcher as a person, comparing the character’s perspective and perception to watching a rat drag a piece of pizza across a platform. He doesn’t want to become a rat’s friend, live among rats or do rat things. He just says: Dude, that’s awesome. Look how it’s going! This is the relationship of the observer to humanity. The first episode of What If…? will be about Peggy Carter, who in this alternate universe has the same gifts as Steve Rogers, now Captain Britain, and wonders : What if Peggy Carter had gotten the gifts through the super soldier serum and Steve Rogers had remained the skinny guy but had gotten the Iron Man-like armor designed by Howard Stark, Tony Stark’s father? Other anticipated storylines include the popular Marvel Zombies series, in which some Avengers fight undead superheroes and villains, Black Widow survives in a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by Ultron, and a version of Thor who never became worthy enough to handle Mjolnir.
