MLB odds: Blue Jays vs. Mets prediction, odds, pick, and more

Game 1 of the World Series is tonight (8/27/17), and the Jays and Mets are playing a rematch of their playoff series (which the Jays won). The Jays are playing at home, but the game is at 8:30PM, so you have to be up around that time. Should be a great game to watch!

We have simulated all possible ways this Blue Jays vs. Mets matchup will play out. With that, we can give you an idea of the current odds and possible movements of the game. Here are some things to know about this matchup:

At the time of writing, the New York Mets , a Major League Baseball team , are pitted against the Toronto Blue Jays , another MLB team, in a match that may not be as important to wear as previous meaningful games, but will still be a good game to watch. The Mets are looking to improve on a disappointing 2013 season, while the Blue Jays are looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since 1993. After a season of extra games and extra days, this game may be a little tamer than the regular season, but it still promises to be a close match.

On Friday night, the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets will begin a three-game series at Citi Field. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a prediction and selection for the Blue Jays vs. Mets.

Toronto lost its last two games in Buffalo and will finish the season on the road before returning to the Rogers Centre. After being thrashed by the Boston Red Sox in their last series, the Blue Jays will be looking to rebound. New York comes into this series having won three of its previous four games, which is encouraging for a team that has struggled in recent weeks.

The odds for the Blue Jays vs. Mets are as follows.

Why the Blue Jays are a good bet to cover the spread

The Blue Jays are one of the most intriguing and youthful teams in baseball this season. They are presently 48-44 and five games off of the second American League Wild Card position. Before the recent defeats to the Red Sox, Toronto had won four consecutive games. The Blue Jays’ offense has been on fire recently, scoring at least four runs in each of their previous six games and double digits in two of those games. Their pitching has been a major problem for them all season, and they’ve only given up 20 runs in their past two defeats. In this three-game series against the Mets, Toronto’s top-three offense will try to lead the way.

In the first game of the series, Toronto will go with left-hander Steven Matz. This season, the former Met has pitched well for Toronto, going 8-4 with a 4.43 ERA in 16 starts. He’s been throwing well of late, and this will be one of his finest starts of the season. On July 18, the Blue Jays’ southpaw pitched a five-inning shutout against the Texas Rangers. In his first start against his old team, Matz will be a bit more energized. At Citi Field, the former Mets pitcher had a lifetime 3.81 ERA.

Why the Mets Might Be able to Cover The Spread

The New York Mets have a season record of 50-43, due to a stellar 28-14 record at Citi Field. In the NL East, the Mets presently have a four-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. This season, New York has had a lot of success thanks to a top-three pitching staff that has only allowed 2.48 runs per game at home. The offense hasn’t been kind to this team, but the outstanding starting rotation has taken them far. However, the Mets’ ailing offense has showed flashes of life recently, scoring at least seven runs in four of their past five games.

For the first game of the series, New York will start right-hander Tylor Megill. Megill has pitched well in his first five outings of the season, with a 2.63 ERA and 28 strikeouts. In each of his past three outings, the 25-year-old starter has allowed one earned run or less. He’s coming off a strong start in which he pitched six innings of scoreless ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Over 13 innings and three starts at Citi Field, Megill has a 2.77 ERA.

Final Blue Jays-Mets Prediction & Pick

Despite the Mets’ dominance at Citi Field this season, I anticipate the Toronto Blue Jays to take the opener. I absolutely anticipate Steven Matz to enter this game with a chip on his shoulder, which will benefit him since he has pitched in this stadium before. He’s been pitching great recently, and the Mets’ lineup doesn’t represent much of a danger to him. The Toronto offense has maintained its dominance and should be able to score a few runs against the Mets’ rookie starter. Megill has had a strong season thus far, but he hasn’t faced many opponents like the Blue Jays.
