The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is an upcoming South Korean-American adult animated dark fantasy film for Netflix, as we previously reported. The next feature-length adventure will be a spin-off of The Witcher, a Netflix series. The film will take place prior to the events of the live-action series and will attempt to explain more about the Witcher’s universe, including how the magically altered monster hunters are born. The genesis tale of Geralt’s mentor and fellow Witcher, Vesemir, will be the centerpiece of Nightmare of the Wolf. Check out the brand-new full-length trailer below the jump!
Netflix revealed in January 2020 that a Korean animation company, Studio Mir, was working on an animated feature adaptation. A “Date Announcement” teaser was made at the virtual WitcherCon event in July 2021. Vesemir is played by Theo James (Divergent, How It Ends), Tetra is played by Lara Pulver (Edge of Tomorrow, Underworld: Blood Wars), Deglan is played by Graham McTavish (The Hobbit, Aquaman), and Lady Zerbst is played by Mary McDonnell (Dances with Wolves, Independence Day). Beau DeMayo wrote the script for the animated feature, which Lauren Schmidt Hissrich produced.

The actors had difficulty carrying multiple swords at the same time because they were too heavy, so they were only carrying one sword at a time, according to Kwang Il Han, director at Studio Mir, who told The Verge that one benefit of the animated format was that it allowed the Witchers to carry their iconic dual blades. “We don’t have such limitations in anime.” Company Mir, the South Korean animation studio behind programs like Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defenders and Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Legend of Korra, may be recognizable to certain viewers. The new Netflix short will also provide viewers a background for Vesemir, whose character is scheduled to feature in the show’s forthcoming second season, which will premiere in December. In other developments, the live-action series The Witcher is currently gearing up for its Season 2 premiere in December. Netflix has announced that the live action series’ debut episode will be an adaptation of A Grain of Truth, one of the first tales in Andrzej Sapkowski’s anthology The Last Wish. According to what was also seen in the new teaser for this bloody prequel of the sarcastic monster hunter and gore, Geralt isn’t the only Witcher who enjoys a lengthy dip in the tub.
This fresh new trailer follows a shorter teaser that was published only last month, and it arrives just a few weeks before the forthcoming animated film’s formal premiere. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is anticipated to be at least 81 minutes long. The Witcher’s second season will debut on December 17th, 2021, and the new forthcoming feature will release on August 23rd, 2021. Both of the new films will be accessible to see on Netflix.
