East Rutgerford, New Jersey… Quarterback Daniel Jones played in the 13th minute. Week not in Seattle, but it was closer than even the New York Giants had anticipated at the beginning of last week.
In addition to that setback, Jones is expected to return from a hamstring injury this week when Giants receive the Arizona Cardinals (1:00 ET, Fox), according to a source close to the quarterback. It is very important for the big eastern giants of the NFC (5-7), whose football team in Washington (5-7) is breathing down their necks.

Jones will have to go through a number of checkpoints, including proof to the team’s decision-makers that he is ready. It starts on Wednesday, when the giants have a little more than a walk on the cardinals.
This week we will give him every chance to get out on the practice field and show that he can defend himself well on the field, according to Joe Judge, coach of Giants. If that’s the case, of course we want him to play. But we’ll make sure he does the right thing.
You see, I had to make a decision [in Seattle on Sunday] to resist. He was a little disappointed because he was a competitive man. But we have Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to go to the square. We’ll see what he looks like and make a better decision for him.
Jones came close to a crushing victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He was only deported after the coaches met with the quarterback on Sunday-morning. Until then, the Giants had hoped that Jones could at least act, perhaps even as a backup or emergency solution.
However, the referee decided it was in the interests of the quarterback and the team to keep the starter on the sidelines in full glory and threw veteran Colt McCoy.

I had to protect him from myself somehow [Sunday], said Jones’ referee after the game. I didn’t want to put him in a situation where I wasn’t 100% sure he couldn’t defend every game.
Jones didn’t practice early last week, but the referee looked at him extensively on Thursday when he sat down and threw. He was impressed with the way Jones moved. The Buy More then slipped in on Friday during a small training session and prepared with McCoy as if he was playing. But they all knew the truth, and Jones was classified as doubtful.
The DJ has been talking to me well all week, McCoy said after finishing 13 of his 22 steps at 105 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He knew it wouldn’t be a good opportunity for him.

McCoy was ready for Sunday’s service, but the offense did not have the same ability to make big games with him in the lead. He threw a pass over 20 yards long; it was his last, and he stopped and fell incompletely on Sterling Shepard.
The Giants rarely threw the ball deep, but Jones ended the NFL rebound with 57.7 percent of his total low shots. Four of them considered touchdowns. They want that threat on Sunday against the Cardinals (6-6), a team that can score.
That’s only possible if Jones is able to act effectively, and the judge and the Giants will rule this week.
If there’s pressure in his pocket, can he stand aside? If he has to come out of his pocket and grab a space bar so he can stick the ball in his pocket and try for the first time, that’s fine with us and we’re sure he’ll go there and get it without it getting worse, the referee said.
When his natural instinct as a player enters the game, I want to make sure that he is not physically restricted in any way or that someone on the field has an advantage over him. It’s not fair to us… If he’s just an easy target.
