UN climate change conference COP26 might get new dates because of coronavirus

The revised date of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) could be pushed back from December 1 to December 12. November 2021. The location was to be Glasgow, but the British government wants to bring it forward by a year. This is due to the threat of a coronavirus pandemic. The UN climate panel will meet soon to discuss a review of its work. This conference is a global platform for discussing the various aspects of climate change, which have far-reaching implications for the entire world. Most of the world’s heads of state were thus able to attend. In 2015, they developed climate policies and concluded the Paris Agreement.

This year is important because countries must submit their recommendations for major emission reductions. Only then will the world be able to achieve the objectives of the agreement. A November 2018 report shows that the U.S. could face serious challenges related to climate change.

According to the UK Cabinet Office, they have proposed new dates without regard to location. It has sent a letter on this issue to the UN member states. The Paris Agreement commits countries to limiting temperatures to a certain level to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. The world is facing major disasters such as melting glaciers, flash floods, rising sea levels and forest fires. Events such as hurricanes and typhoons devastate the environment and are becoming more frequent.

These are the effects of climate change that result in the loss of people, habitats and property.

Greenhouse gases are responsible for climate change

The world is trying to deal with the coronavirus. Many countries have declared control measures to prevent the spread of the virus, and governments have made this global health crisis a priority.

Some countries are switching to electric vehicles to minimize the use of fossil fuels, which produce harmful gases and contribute to global warming. The Pars agreement was signed in 2015, when Barack Obama was president. But when Donald Trump took office, he pulled out of the deal, and Joe Biden, the new president, wants to get back into it.

It is a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with a reduction in the number of industries in operation, a reduction in the volume of traffic and a reduction in the demand for transport. Climate change may lead to irreversible destruction of the environment if not halted.

Reversing climate change is possible through alternatives

Moreover, experts warn that CO2 pollution could increase if the world does not take the necessary steps to stop the production of greenhouse gases. One way to do this is to use renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power. Governments need to ensure that economic recovery after a pandemic is environmentally sound. This means investing in things like renewable energy, public transport, cycling and planting trees.

This could increase employment potential and improve lives.

Climate change summit and coronavirus pandemic

According to Sky News, Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants the COP26 summit in November to be a face-to-face event. He wants the participants to be vaccinated. However, there are signs that the pandemic is getting worse in some parts of the world. The authorities therefore want the United Nations and the Scottish Government to decide the fate of the summit. As one government source said, there are too many uncertain factors. This will depend on the health regulations issued from time to time and what happens with the vaccination of delegates. There is some doubt as to whether the Board members will attend in person or whether it will be a virtual event.

Incidentally, the last two COP summits have had more than 20,000 participants. Among them were dignitaries such as heads of state, ministers and others. Climate activist Greta Tanberg was on the warpath even before the Davos summit.
