Paul Mitchell was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States. He represented Michigan’s 10th Congressional District. The district is located in what is known as ‘The Thumb’ area of the state.
He just announced his retirement from Congress after becoming frustrated with the polarization of American politics. But, sadly, it wasn’t long before he revealed he was suffering from severe health problems.
On August 15, he passed away.
CNN and Politico both claim that Paul Mitchell has died. Mitchell revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer.
After he started experiencing back issues, he made the discovery. Additionally, cancer caused a large blood clot, which he had to medically remove.
That operation went well. Unfortunately, Mitchell’s kidney cancer progressed, and he died on August 15, 2021. Carl Levin, a prominent Michigan senator, died of cancer less than a month earlier.
Mitchell was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Republican for the first time in 2016. Candice Miller, his predecessor, has decided not to seek for re-election. At the time, Miller was the chairman of the House Administration Committee.
Mitchell was re-elected to the House of Representatives in 2018. He became a vocal opponent of Republican President Donald Trump during his second administration.
Mitchell declared that he will not seek re-election to the House of Representatives as the political climate remained heated. However, things would continue to deteriorate for him.
Trump would lose the 2020 presidential election, but then peddle bogus conspiracy theories to explain his defeat. Claiming he wouldn’t have lost if there hadn’t been rampant voting fraud, which there wasn’t.
Mitchell ultimately severed his formal connections with the Republican Party as a result of this. He would stay in the House as an Independent for the rest of his term.
Mitchell has previously run for a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives. He ran for the seat from the 4th District, which is near Lansing, in the Republican primary in 2014.
Dave Camp, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, announced his retirement. State Senator John Moolenaar received the nomination and went on to win the general election.
Mitchell’s first elected position was on the Saint Clair City Council in Michigan. In 2013, he ran for a seat in the Michigan State Senate for a short time. Mitchell led the Michigan branch of the Faith and Freedom Coalition before being elected to Congress.
Mitchell previously served as the dean of a medical school.
Paul Mitchell was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. He and his family relocated to Waterford Township, Michigan, in the Detroit area when he was a kid. He went on to Michigan State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
He was the owner and operator of Ross Medical Education Center in Saint Clair prior to his tenure in Congress. In 2008, he married Sherry, his wife. They’d have a total of six children.

Mitchell was born in 1946 in Flint, Michigan and in 1970 he was elected to the Michigan Legislature. He was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1970 and he was re-elected four times.
