Seth Rogen Clarifies Emma Watson Didn’t “Storm Off” the Set

Following a recent interview in which actor and director Seth Rogen revealed behind-the-scenes details about Emma Watson’s filming in This is the End, including a scene she didn’t want to include. Speaking to GQ, Rogen confirmed rumors that comedy had gone too far for Watson and that the Harry Potter veteran had decided to retire from the scene. The truth, as Rogen says, is far less dramatic than previous reports would have the public believe. Rogen says he understands why Watson chose to leave at that point, noting that she returned the next day to finish work on the film….. but articles that reported on the interview described her choice to get angry or leave the set, which he says is not the case.

In a tweet today, Rogen expressed his frustration with the GQ article. He also admitted that he could have told the story better and more accurately to the reporter.

I’d like to set the record straight about a story that came up in a recent interview with Rogen that he posted on social media. It distorts what really happened. Emma Watson didn’t storm the set and it sucks that she did. The scene didn’t fit the original script, it was improvised, drastically changed and didn’t match what was agreed upon. The story that she was uncool or unprofessional is pure nonsense. I certainly should have communicated better, and because I didn’t, she was put in an awkward position. She and I spoke in the evening; the general situation was bad and I am sure it was difficult for her to say anything, but I am very happy and impressed that she did. We agreed she wouldn’t be at the crime scene. I was delighted to work with her and would love to have that opportunity again. I am very sorry and disappointed that this happened, and I wish I could have done more to prevent it.

Before it became a feature film, the concept existed as a short film in which Rogen and Jay Baruchel waited in their apartment for the apocalypse to happen. This Is the End, starring James Franco, Craig Robinson and Jonah Hill, is certainly a project for which fans would love to see the cast get back together, and Baruchel has already hinted that such a reunion is not unthinkable.

The closest I’ve heard, and that’s the question from Seth and [director/writer] Evan [Goldberg], is more than a question to me, but the last time I heard Evan say something like that: What I’d like to see is you have five or six guys in a lot of different settings, so no sequels, but basically it’s the end in ancient Rome and then it’s the end in the American West and then all that, whatever, but I don’t know where it might go, Baruchel confirmed with . I know it works for me. But we’ll probably get kicked out of heaven or something. It would be interesting to see how you and Jonas hate each other at different times.
