A pool, usually located at a hotel, is a great place to cool off on a hot summer day. But, the reality is that most hotel pools are not for swimming. Instead, they’re designed primarily to provide guests with a place to relax, catch up on reading or take a nap before dinner. However, we can all agree that a hotel pool that provides free access to the water, is awesome.
There is something surprisingly satisfying about the act of disappearing that one can do in a hotel pool. Put down your hat, grab your biggest pair of Jackie O sunglasses and a lovely good book and you have everything you need for a little world trip. The best part? You can make this escape without leaving your home town. From Nashville to Dallas, we have five of the best hotel pools offering a day pass to give you a break this summer. If it’s in your area, take the plunge.
Virgin Hotels
Nashville
The Pool Club spans 14 floors in the Virgin Hotel building in Nashville and offers enough attractions, from fried chicken for brunch to DJs spinning tunes in the evening, to keep you there for hours. How to book: Book a couch at Seven Rooms for $100 Monday through Wednesday (you must also spend at least $100 on food or drinks). The Pool Club website offers additional options, including private cabins for up to eight people.
La Joule
Dallas
The Joule, with its cantilevered rooftop pool, is a great place to escape the responsibilities while sipping coconut margaritas and watching the hustle and bustle of Main Street. Don’t forget to put on your best suit. The edge of the glass means the crowd is watching. How to book: Make reservations in advance at 1530main.com. Few hotel pools are as iconic as the Aqua Star Pool at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, which underwent a $35 million renovation last year. Reserve a deck chair for yourself or invite your team and reserve a cabana for four. If you’re hungry, Hotel Mercato offers sandwiches, salads and pizzas. However you want to enjoy it, be prepared to watch people. Who knows who’s out there? How to book: Day passes for adults start at $65 and cabins at $400. Both can be booked at resortpass.com.
The Chloe
New Orleans
Swap the heat of New Orleans for a refreshing dip in the Chloe Hotel’s pool. Located behind some of New Orleans’ most popular bars and restaurants, the team’s chic boutique hotel is nestled among the oak trees of St. John’s Avenue. Charles. Guests can enjoy classic poolside cocktails like daiquiris and Bahama Mamas, as well as snacks prepared by chef Todd Pulsinelli. Stop by for happy hour every day from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. The endless saltwater pool beneath the LINE building, a massive mid-century structure, looks directly out onto the city lake. Day passes include free parking and wireless internet, so you can work from home if you need to. Poolside snacks are provided by Veracruz All Natural, one of the city’s most popular food trucks, which offers tacos, queso and freshly squeezed juices.
