Raphael Varane will not be allowed to make his Manchester United debut this weekend, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, since his transfer from Real Madrid is still pending.

United stated on July 27 that they had completed a £34 million deal with Real Madrid for the defender, but have yet to officially confirm his arrival 17 days later.

Varane has arrived in Manchester after a period of isolation, but he has not been allowed to practice with his new teammates, according to Solskjaer.

United kicks off its Premier League season against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Premier League’s registration deadline for the first round of matches passed at 12 p.m. (7 a.m. ET) on Friday.

At a press conference on Friday, Solskjaer said, “He has not trained with us.” “Things happen, and things take time, and the solitude has slowed things down.” It’s not finished, and since he hasn’t trained with us, I can guarantee he won’t be [available against Leeds].

“There are always little details to consider. Isolation and quarantine were the major roadblocks. He’s now in Manchester, and hopefully it’ll be completed shortly.”

Following his summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund, Solskjaer received better news regarding Jadon Sancho, who is likely to be in the team to play Leeds.

Sancho did not attend the St. Andrews training camp, but he returned to training on Monday.

“Jadon is certainly going to be participating,” Solskjaer stated.

“He’s had a fantastic week. Unfortunately, he became sick after his vacation, and we were unable to practice with him for a few days, but he has bonded well with the group and seems to be smarter than I anticipated. I have no idea when he’ll start.”

Bruno Fernandes has said that he is delighted about United’s new summer acquisitions, but believes they cannot win all of the club’s titles on their own.

“All of the players the club employs have a lot to contribute to the group,” he told ESPN, “but we can’t expect them to come in and alter the whole club or be the ones responsible for making the team better.”

“We recognize that these are two extremely high-level players, and we have great expectations of them, but the pressure we place on them is the same strain we put on those of us who are already here; everyone must be under the same pressure.”

“The pressure mounts because we want championships, and we know that acquiring players of this caliber will help us get there. At the same time, we cannot place all of the blame on their shoulders, and if we fail to meet our objectives, it is not just their fault, but the fault of the whole team.”

United lost their opening game of the season against Crystal Palace last season, and Solskjaer wants his squad to get off to a better start this season.

After COVID-19 limits were lifted in the UK, Old Trafford will have a capacity crowd for the first time since March 2020.

“We had a fantastic preseason, and the past couple of weeks with everyone back in have been very excellent,” he added. “We’re still missing a few of players due to injury and COVID-19, but we’re optimistic.”

“This club is about trophies and football, and my expectations are that we continue to improve our style and play well.”

“Hopefully, by March, April, and May, we’ll be there or near. We’ve done well, and the crew is hungry. I’m optimistic heading into the new season, but the first few games will be a challenge.”
