CNN —

For well over two years, the Logitech G203 Lightsync mouse has been my trusted navigator, offering a degree of comfort that enables it to blend into my fingertips as I click my way through papers, business conversations, and the few games of Halo I sneak in. It’s so dependable that I take it for granted and haven’t considered changing it.

The G203, like my Homall gaming chair and Logitech G915 TKL keyboard, is a gaming device that also works well for daily activities. It may also be a fantastic addition to your setup if you’re looking for a cheap mouse that feels amazing and provides more flair and customization than the typical clicker.

A fantastic, low-cost mouse for both work and pleasure.

The Logitech G203 is a fantastic cheap mouse for both gamers and WFH-ers thanks to its ergonomic build and beautiful RGB lights.

The primary reason I’ve kept the G203 connected to my PC for so long is because it just feels great. Logitech’s $39 gaming mouse has a simple, beautiful curved shape that fits nicely in my hand and keeps me comfortable even after eight hours of scrolling between browser tabs, clearing spam emails, and jumping between several Slack conversations.

The G203 has exactly the right number of buttons for my work and gaming needs. You get two programmable thumb buttons on the left side of the mouse, in addition to the standard left and right click buttons, a snappy scroll wheel, and an useful DPI (dots per inch) switch that allows you change the mouse’s sensitivity on the fly. These are helpful for simple activities like scrolling forward and backward through my browser history in Google Chrome, as well as for bashing opponents in the face while I’m playing my favorite shooters.

I also like the G203’s simple design. It’s a basic, sleek black mouse with just enough RGB lights to make it stand out without being too distracting. It also comes in several very interesting two-tone color choices, like white, blue, and a particularly beautiful lilac, if you want something that pops a little more. These hues are a far cry from what you’ll find on most gaming mouse, and they have a nice lifestyle feel to them that doesn’t appear to be targeted only at those who spend their days slaying zombies in Call of Duty.

I don’t have much to say about the G203’s performance since it serves my everyday needs so well that I seldom think about it. Despite years of mousing between several displays, I’ve never had any issues with friction, and every button still feels clicky and responsive after a lot of usage. Whether I want to glide around the screen rapidly or make more methodical motions, the DPI button is extremely dependable for toggling between four levels of sensitivity with a single touch. While I’m a controller player, the G203 has made commanding an army of buff troops in Gears Tactics or landing accurate zombie headshots in Back 4 Blood a breeze.

On the surface, the G203 seems to be a very basic device, but like with other Logitech gaming gear, there are a plethora of interesting ways to personalize it to your taste. The Logitech G Hub software for Mac and Windows enables you to customize the G203 in a variety of ways, from changing the RGB lighting patterns to adding more sophisticated custom settings.

I’ve spent the most of my time with the G203 tinkering with the former, since it’s extremely simple to configure the mouse to glow your favorite color or cycle through every hue of the rainbow. While I usually configure all of my RGB gear to glow a solid purple (the nicest color), I’ve been having a lot of fun with the “screen sampler” effect, which dynamically alters the lighting depending on what’s going on on your monitor.

Other features include a Freestyle mode that allows you to independently configure the mouse’s three lighting zones for unique color combinations, as well as more complex animations that cycle through several colors at once. Many of these lighting choices may be synced between your Logitech mouse and keyboard for a constant appearance, while other patterns are only available on the mouse. You may also use the G Hub app to create your own animations and download a variety of unique patterns made by other Logitech users.

You can even completely reprogram every button on the mouse if you really want to dig into the nitty-gritty. Do you want your thumb button to always launch a new browser tab when you click it? That’s something you can do. Would you prefer have your right click activate multitasking mode or paste whatever is already on your clipboard? Let your imagination go wild. I’ve just begun to scratch the surface of the G Hub’s deeper customizations, but I can already see how they may make daily job chores a little simpler and more enjoyable.

Even better, you can store several profiles with your preferred lighting and button combinations, and even attach them to particular games and applications so they start immediately when they’re needed. Many top gaming mice provide this degree of customisation, but I find the G Hub’s features to be particularly straightforward, and they’re just as useful for simplifying daily WFH life as they are for gaining an advantage when gaming.

I’ve always maintained that gaming peripherals can also serve as excellent home office accessories, and the Logitech G203 Lightsync is an excellent example of this. It’s cheap, comfy, and beautiful, with lots of customization options so you can make it fit your work and play styles. The mouse’s simple design avoids the excessively aggressive stylings of comparable gaming mice, and its bright color choices are ideal for anyone want to personalize their home setup.

The $19 Logitech M510 is our best budget mouse, due to its pleasant feel and extended battery life. If you want something even cheaper and would rather go wireless than have RGB illumination, the $19 Logitech M510 is our favorite budget mouse. Serious creatives should check out the $99 Logitech MX Master 3, which boasts a bigger, more ergonomic design and a slew of productivity-enhancing features. The Corsair Dark Core RGB, with its wired and wireless connection choices and eight customizable buttons, is our current best gaming mouse selection for more serious gamers.

The $39 Logitech G203 Prodigy, which is an earlier model with some minor but noticeable changes, is also worth mentioning. While the Lightsync has more configurable lighting zones, the Prodigy includes inbuilt memory that allows you to save settings to the mouse rather than your computer. If you often move between computers and want to retain your settings with you, the Prodigy is probably a better choice.

Despite the numerous excellent options available, the Logitech G203 Lightsync will not be leaving my desk anytime soon. It still looks and feels as good as it did when I first unboxed it a few years ago, and for $30 to $40 (and sometimes even less during promotions), it’s a no-brainer for anybody looking for a nice wired mouse that they can really customize.

The logitech g203 lightsync ips is a new mouse by Logitech. It has an IPS sensor and the ability to sync with any of their G-series gaming keyboards.
