While the US military continues its bombing campaign to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the Pentagon is considering working with the Taliban against the rival ISIS-K terrorists in Afghanistan.
One day after being assessed as being a viable partner in the U.S.’s fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Afghan government has asked for Washington’s help to suppress a resurgent Taliban. The offer was made during a meeting between the Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani, and U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, a day after a Taliban offensive in the northern provinces of Samangan and Sar-e Pul killed at least 13 government soldiers and wounded over a hundred.
