Timo Werner’s problems in front of goal persisted in Chelsea’s draw with Real Madrid (EPA).
Thomas Tuchel thinks Timo Werner is angry that he missed a chance in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Christian Pulisic gave Chelsea the lead with a stunning solo effort, but Karim Benzema’s equaliser before the break levelled the score in the Spanish capital.
Meanwhile, things went wrong for Werner in front of the goal. He missed a great chance to give Chelsea the lead before Pulisic’s opener.
The £47.5million striker has scored just one goal in his last 13 appearances for Chelsea and the attacker is now under pressure to keep his starting place ahead of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.
He missed the big chance at West Ham, now he missed another big chance here, it doesn’t make sense, Tuchel said after the draw against Madrid.
But it also doesn’t help to cry or feel sorry all the time.

Tuchel also made it clear that Chelsea should have led after a good first 45 minutes against Madrid.

I feel like we should have won the first half, that we deserved to win the first half, and maybe we could have decided this game early in the first half when we played very hard. The second half was a bit tactical and it felt like we only had two days between the two away games.
Both games were very difficult, both physically and mentally, and it showed in the decision making, ball loss and acceleration, which we suffered from today. Another day would have been great for us, but it was not to be.
Now it’s about enjoying a rest day for the group and then forgetting this result, concentrating on the next challenges, taking things one step at a time, and next week we have another challenge against Real Madrid.
It will be difficult, because it is the semi-final of the Champions League, nothing is certain. Even if we win here, anything is possible. It’s halftime and we have to fight for every inch and every advantage we want.
