Which Raptors rookie card is the best investment?

After playing at a high level in the Eastern Conference for so many years, the Toronto Raptors are in the midst of a difficult season. The Raptors currently sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with a 24-34 record, due in large part to an insane COVID-19 season in which a number of key players were not in action. Although it has been a lacklustre season for Toronto, there are still some gems to discover when it comes to NBA tickets. They are Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr. and Og Anunoby.

At first glance, most collectors are reluctant to invest in players from Toronto. That’s true, because the team is really underperforming this season. Even if that’s the case, the three players above are doing their best to convince Cards fans otherwise. Below, we look at which Raptor represents the best investment opportunity and why these guys are ideal candidates to buy with minimal cost.

OG Anunobi

The defense, which has been key to the Raptors’ success in recent seasons, has always been the model for the team’s wingers. Aside from Pascal Siakam, no other attacker on Toronto’s team is more valuable than OG Anunoby.

The 23-year-old Indiana University attacker is experiencing the best statistical season of his four-year career. In the 37 games he has played this year, Anunoby is averaging 14.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 33 minutes per game. While these numbers are promising, it is his role as a wing defender that gives Anunoby the key to success.

He is shooting 39.3 percent on his 5.8 attempts per game from downtown this season. At the same time, Anunoby has the unique ability to take out agile guards on the perimeter and keep taller opponents under the ring. These talents improve Toronto’s offensive space and overall effectiveness on the defensive side of the ball.

Currently, Anunoby’s shares are quite cheap. His latest 2017 PSA 10 rookie Prizm card sold for $81 on eBay.

Gary Trent Jr.

If there’s one thing that sets Gary Trent Jr. apart from the rest, it’s his ability to get excited on offense. That’s very noticeable, especially since the former Portland Trail Blazer in Orlando sank opponents 47.9% from distance and 46.5% from the field.

Trent’s most important trait hasn’t changed since he played for the Raptors. Right from the start, the 6-foot-8 guard accounted for 17.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 33.6 minutes per game. He also shoots 38.9 percent from three-point range.

Over a week ago, Trent showed everyone why he was a force to be reckoned with in Orlando last year. In the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, he scored 44 points and handed out 11 assists to lead the Raptors to a 135-115 victory.

By playing for a non-playing team, Trent’s card value was not noticed. His Prizm PSA 10 rookie card sold for $82 on eBay, which puts him in the same price range as Anunoby.

Fred VanVleet

While Anunoby and Trent are solid pieces for the Raptors, Fred VanVleet is by far the team’s best hope for the future. The proof was in the pudding when the franchise signed Steady Freddy to a four-year, $85 million contract in the offseason.

The 6-foot-6 guard has been solid in all 45 games he has played this year. VanVleet is currently averaging 19.5 points, 6.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 36.1 minutes per game. His game is rounded out by his 36.6% perimeter rate on high volume, which he showed in February against the Orlando Magic.

In that game, VanVleet had 11 of his 14 shots on goal. He also shot 17-for-23 from the field and scored a career-high 54 points.

Because Steady Freddy entered the NBA as an unselected player, he did not receive a true Prizm rookie card. What is readily available, however, is his second 2018 PSA 10 Prizm card, which last sold for $130.

Verdict: Toronto Raptors player is a great investment forcollectors

Anunobi, despite all his strengths, rarely took control of matches and dominated. Meanwhile, Trent can be considered a one-trick pony who has nothing to offer defensively. VanVleet also has his weaknesses, but his card potential is certainly greater than that of his teammates.

A steady Freddy is a better investment option as his star is rising in Toronto, unlike Pascal Siakam who regressed sharply after his All-Star season. Also, the lack of true Fred VanVleet rookie cards only increases his overall value. If you are a Toronto Raptors fan and you are looking for the best player on this team to invest in, then VanVleet stock is an investment you should make.
