Mads Mikkelsen has not yet told Johnny Depp about his work as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. In a recent interview with AP Entertainment, Mikkelsen confirmed that he had not yet approached Depp to play Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. Mikkelsen says he doesn’t understand Depp very well and that he only met him once. Although he wants nothing more than to contact an animator to investigate the character, he doesn’t have his phone number.

Although Mikkelsen has no contact with Depp, he tries to respect everything Depp has put into the Grindelwald character.
