President Joe Biden favors electric cars assembled in the United States over conventionally fueled cars. It plans to replace the state’s fleet as part of its Buy America policy. He issued a decree to that effect. Court records show that in 2019, the US government had 645,000 vehicles. The GSA’s General Services Administration states that the U.S. Postal Service operates 35% of these vehicles, which consume millions of gallons of gasoline and diesel. There needs to be clarity on the type of vehicles that will replace the existing ones. During the interview, the President noted that the new fleet will consist of electric cars with zero net emissions. Clearly, the issue of climate change is on his radar.
Electric cars are examples of renewable energy in action. They can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the resulting global warming that leads to environmental problems such as droughts and forest fires. Biden wants the United States to join the Paris climate accord, and his emphasis on electric cars shows his seriousness.
CNBC reports that the government is a large purchaser of vehicles and replacing them would not only be an expensive endeavor, but also a lengthy project. Few American manufacturers have the resources and expertise to produce electric vehicles. These are Tesla, General Motors and Nissan Motors, while Ford Motors plans to join the group. An industry representative said: Current supply is quite small, but the industry is about to unleash an avalanche of new products, many of which are being built in North America. He adds that most plants in the country will have a hybrid or electric product.

Electric cars will create jobs
President Biden wants to create more jobs to fight unemployment. He believes that the conversion of the conventional fleet to electric cars will create many jobs in the auto industry. Lack of work is a problem and he wants to address it.
He announced an increase in the use of US-made parts in government vehicles. At least 50% of the vehicle’s components must come from America. According to Mr. Biden, the 50% threshold should be reconsidered given the job creation and economic activity requirements. The major auto groups like General Motors and Ford seem to agree with the president.

President Joe Biden is serious about phasing out gasoline-powered vehicles used by the federal government. He wants American-made electric cars to take his place. It’s a promise he made during the campaign, and he intends to keep it. Electronic car manufacturers in the U.S. and long-standing automakers such as Ford and General Motors find this news encouraging. To make electric cars affordable, Biden could introduce rebates or incentives to allow consumers to replace gasoline-powered cars with electric ones. In July 2017, Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Model 3 electric car.

General Motors will spend billions on electric and autonomous vehicles by 2025. Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, is the richest man in the world. It focuses on luxury and vehicle performance. Ford has introduced an electric version of their Transit vans. The frequency of automakers matches Biden’s, which is a positive sign. These machines will contribute to the fight against climate change.
