Colts OC Marcus Brady tasked with getting Carson Wentz back on track – Indianapolis Colts Blog

If Broncos QB and Super Bowl hero Peyton Manning is correct, the Colts may not have to wait long for the return of their new franchise quarterback, who has been sidelined with a low-grade knee injury. That’s because the team’s starting quarterback, Carson Wentz, is expected to be available for the start of the Colts’ offseason workout program set to begin in early April.

After a 23-year career that saw him go from offensive coordinator to head coach, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has been out of the spotlight for a few months while he recovers from a spinal cord injury. Now that he’s back in the spotlight, he’s spending his time connecting with players and coaches.

INDIANAPOLIS – With less than a month to go before training camp begins, the Indianapolis Colts are paying more attention to the offense than any other unit on the roster.

Quarterback Carson Wentz, in his first season with the Colts, will be the focal point. And it’s not weekly, it’s daily because the position is so important and has lacked long-term stability since Andrew Luck left about 23 months ago.

But if you look a little further, you’ll find another key element that has changed and will affect what happens this season.

Strike coordinator.

Fortunately for Colts coach Frank Reich, he didn’t have to look far to replace Nick Sirianni, who was named coach of the Philadelphia Eagles last winter. Reich remained on the staff, appointing defensive backs coach Marcus Brady as offensive coordinator.

Marcus is more than ready to take on that task, according to Reich. I trust him completely. The day we brought Marcus in, I knew he was ready, and I assumed we would get there. I knew Nick would get the manager’s job soon because he’s that kind of coach, and I never doubted Marcus would be next.

Jeremy Fowler interviewed more than 50 coaches, executives, scouts and players to create the top 10 rankings for 2021:

– Edge | Interior DL | LB
– CB | Safety
– OT (July 10) | Interior OL (July 11)
– QB (July 12) | RB (July 13)
– WR (July 14) | TE (July 15)
Other NFL coverage.

I had no doubt that he was a worker first and foremost. Number 2, he’s very smart. 3, he played the position and I knew he was a good fit for the NFL in terms of character.

Rich is not going to put Brady in a difficult position this season. The coach will work closely with Brady to prepare for the game, as he did in each of his first three seasons, but Reich will play on game day. Reich also hired Milanovic, who, like Reich, played quarterback at the University of Maryland.

The goal is for Wentz to make a smooth transition behind one of the league’s best offensive lines after the 2020 season in which he remained on the Eagles’ bench.

Matching the offense to the quarterback’s abilities is something Reich and his offensive staff have done well, as they have had a different starting quarterback in each of their first three seasons – four in all. In two of the last three seasons, the Colts ranked in the top 10 in the league in yards per game.

So there shouldn’t be a problem with Wentz, right?

We built him to fit the quarterbacks, Brady said in June. Obviously, we’ve had to do that with different quarterbacks the last three years. So we do that in the offseason to see what fits, what (Wentz) would be comfortable with, how he reads the different schemes that we have – because a lot of the schemes are very similar to what he’s done in the past, but we’re just trying to get on the same page and speak the same language. I think it went very well.
