Afghanistan: Most British troops have left – PM

“British troops will have left Afghanistan by the end of this year, the Prime Minister has said in an interview with the BBC. David Cameron said a “significant amount” of troops would still be in the country after the end of their combat mission, which will end in 2014.”

After a 10-year period of British involvement, the UK has announced that it will be withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan in 2015. The current mission includes a 1,600-strong force to train and advise the Afghan army, as well as a small number of troops who will continue to conduct counterinsurgency operations. The UK’s commitment in Afghanistan will be reviewed in 2014, but the decision to end the mission is not final.

From 9/11, to the fierce ground fighting, to the complete withdrawal of the United States, this is what happened.
