No. 1 Alabama (10-0)
As the Heisman Trophy race became more intense, Alabama gave the voters a different name than quarterback Mack Jones: DeVonta Smith. The big senior receiver is nothing short of spectacular this season, with 15 touchdowns in 10 games. He really did it all. He ran for a touchdown, and against Arkansas he scored his first touchdown of the Special Teams kick back. Although his chances of bringing home the Heisman are slim – it’s a quarterback award, to be honest – Smith deserves to be considered the best individual player in college football. -Alex Scarborough

Number 2 Notre Dame (10-0)
The Irish are preparing for their first (and possibly last) conference championship game after signing a one-year agreement to join the CCA this season. Coach Brian Kelly said that as soon as his players found out they were eligible for the conference championship, they put it on their goal list and have been working on it ever since. With Clemson in their sights, the Irish will of course meet a well-known opponent, but this game will be different because Clemson will play against QB Trevor Lawrence. His extra dimension in the racing game and the way the Irish defend will be something to watch out for in the rematch. – Andrea Adelson
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. 3 Ohio State (5-0)
The Buckeyes didn’t play the game against Michigan because of the coronavirus problem of the Wolverines. The next step for USO is Northwestern’s participation in the Big Ten Championship, after the conference officially changed its policy, so teams have to play six games in order to be eligible. Ohio State is one of the programs that has suffered the most this season as the Buckeyes they felt a great opportunity to win a national championship and so far they are still on schedule. — Harry Lyles, Jr.
4 Clemson (9-1).
As the Tigers try to win their sixth straight CCA Championship, all questions revolve around the health of their defense for the return match against Notre Dame. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was not available for the first match after testing positive for coronavirus. Defenders Tyler Davis and James Skalski were also injured – which had a significant impact on the game. Davis is back and has played well; Skalski played only one set in his last game against Virginia Tech, but Dabo Swinney said Skalski is in a good position for Saturday. — Adelson.
No. 5 Texas A&M (7-1)
After the cancellation of the Ole Miss game, the Aggies had to watch Florida lose to LSU, which ended the discussions that the Gators had to go for A&M. The Aggies are playing against Tennessee this weekend and want to see what happens to the teams in front of them. If the Aggies win, Alabama beats Florida and Notre Dame gets a second win against Clemson, a play-off spot might follow. -Dave Wilson
No. 6 Cincinnati (8-0)
The Bearcats haven’t played since they were 21. November escaped in CFA with a 36-33 victory. After seeing their game against Tulsa canceled this weekend, the Bearcats… Tulsa is in the AAC title game next weekend. An undefeated season and a conference championship at their fingertips, and the play-off committee is working to see how far they can go. — Wilson.

The Sun Belt and Billy Napier of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns’ title game is the final obstacle that prevents them from participating in the sixth Bowl on New Year’s Eve. — Liles.
No. 10 Georgia (7-2)
The Bulldogs continued to improve and won three races in a row. The attack has made great progress since quarterback JT Daniels joined the starting team. Of course, those victories were against the state of Mississippi, South Carolina and Missouri, but this team from Georgia looks more like the team we expected to see in the preseason when they were put on the playoff roster. The attack is balanced and the defense is one of the best in the country. And while a two-game loss in the playoffs is out of the question, a win at Vanderbilt’s home next week would put the Kirby Smart team in a good position to play on the top shelf with balls. — Scarborough

The loss for LSU was a terrible loss for the Gators, who were lucky enough to participate in the university football qualifiers this weekend. Those who follow the CCA regularly know what Javonte Williams and Michael Carter are capable of, and you saw it in the national television top 10 hurricanes. The Tar Heels’ performance in winning Miami this season has led to even more surprising defeats in Florida and Virginia. But their clear dominance should put the Tar Heels in a position to conquer a place in the Orange Bowl. If Clemson beats Notre Dame in the CCA-championship game and both teams make the playoffs, it seems reasonable that the committee will place the Tar Heels for Miami in the next standings – and that will be the key to the victory of the Dutch. — Adelson.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. 17 Louisiana (9-1)
Now the rumors that coach Billy Napier would stay or leave, he’s back to work for the Cajun Ragin’ Cajuns, who took a week off last week. The end of the regular 9-1 season was good, but Saturday’s game against Coastal Carolina offers a chance for revenge after a three-point loss for the Chanticleers in week 14. After losing nine points to Oklahoma State to open the season, the Golden Hurricane had a magical season, winning six in a row, including four in the fourth quarter. There’s another big obstacle: On Saturday, the AAC Championship game will be played against a top-10 team of Cincinnati that has won four of the last five games. If this season has proven anything, it’s that we can’t count on Tulsa. — Wilson.
21 Texas (6-3)
After the game in Kansas was canceled due to an outbreak of the coronavirus, Texas ended the regular season 6-3 and is waiting for a bowling match. Meanwhile, Chris Del Conte of Texas tried to curb speculation about Tom Herman’s status by declaring on Saturday that Herman will remain the coach of the Longhorns. Now that expectations in 2020 are disappointed again, Herman and his team are under pressure to take a big step forward in 2021. — Han.

Assuming the Flames have no opponents this week, they will close the regular season 9-1 and hope for an invitation to play. Their record would have tipped the balance in favor of that conclusion, but with a team in decline, Liberty may have played their last game of the season. — Bonagura

Jarett Patterson only needed five games to reach the 1,000 yard mark and Buffalo remained unbeaten with a 56-7 victory over Akron on Saturday. Patterson ran for 1,025 yards and 18 quick touchdowns this season and the Bulls will now aspire to the Mid-American Conference Championship game. Buffalo is 5-0 for the first time since 1980, when the Bulls were a Division III program. — Chris Lowe
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. 24 NC state (8-3)
The Wolfpacks ended the regular season with a 23-13 victory over Georgia Tech a week ago and are now waiting where they will end up in the playing order. After two straight losses at North Carolina and Miami, NC State won four straights and faced the loss of starting quarterback Devin Leary early in the season. — Low
25 State of San Jose (6-0)
With a 20-7 lead at halftime, the Spartans beat Nevada 30-20 on Friday night to stay undefeated. The state of San Jose, which lost two games in a row at the end of November, started at its best since 1939, when the Spartans led 13-0. They will now focus on Friday’s championship game between Boise State and the Mountain West Conference. — Low
