Matthew Stafford #9 of the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions traded quarterback Matthew Stafford, and the 49ers are considered to have the best chance of taking over the veteran signal-caller.

In fact, the son of the 49ers’ legendary Jerry Rice Jr. is so determined to trade the 49ers for Stafford that he tweeted: The Niners will have Stafford.

The Niners are going after Stafford.

Rice is not crazy when he thinks about it.

The Reeses Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama continues all week, and according to Benjamin Albright of KOA NewsRadio, the Stafford 49ers have been making a lot of noise this week.

I have a messy screen on my phone, so updates are rare.

Lots of smoke around the Niners and Stafford this week. In Mobile. We’ll see about that.

Come back tomorrow.

The 49ers have an advantage on Land Stafford.

Another reason Jerry Rice Jr. doesn’t think it’s unusual is that NFL and Sports Illustrated reporter Grant Cohn heard from an anonymous source that the Niners have the advantage of bringing in Stafford.

A source close to the situation said that although nothing is being done or is about to be done, the San Francisco 49ers appear to have a path to acquire Stafford in a trade with the Detroit Lions, Kohn said.

Stafford finished last season with 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,084 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 steals. He already threw for at least 4,000 yards in a season eight times, matching two NFL legends who threw for more than 4,000 yards in a season – Steve Young and Jeff Garcia.

The Lions would like a first-round selection in return, but few analysts see the Niners leaving their first-round selection in 2021 this year.

Jerry Rice explains why the 49ers would never take the Packers’ QB MVP

Stafford isn’t the only veteran quarterback the Niners have been linked to. Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers, MVP of the Packers, is uncertain about his future at Green Bay and could also be a candidate in the offseason. But, uh… Jerry Rice (Jr.’s father) says there’s no chance the Niners bring in Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron won’t want to come here, Rice said on 95.7 Morning Roast. Aaron won’t want to come here because the 49ers didn’t hire him. He still holds a grudge. He still has it on his shoulders. I’m not saying he won’t stay at Green Bay, because that should make him angry, having lost his last two league games.

Rodgers, a star of Calland, has been touted as a possible No. 1 for the 2005 NFL draft. The Niners had their first pick this spring, and many decided it made sense for Rodgers to continue his football career in his home state.

That ideal was not the right one. The 49ers hosted Alex Smith from Utah this year, and Rodgers stayed on the board until the Packers selected him at No. 24. Rodgers told reporters the Niners will regret not picking him.
